Breaking the Sound Barriers in Music Business

Rouba
BOLDtalks Woman 2014

Lebanese-born singer songwriter Rouba made her debut onto the recording music industry in 2012 - at the age of 37. This highly competitive arena is dominated by very superficial entry criteria where women have made very successful careers for themselves based on the way they look, dress and flaunt. Rouba talks about her journey towards finding the courage to jump into the arena without "looking the part" and allowing her inner strengths and talent to help her push through and make her mark based artistic merit.

Rouba a.k.a Roobz, is a soul singer / songwriter born in Lebanon and raised in the United Arab Emirates. She produced her first album entitled "Mama's Back" in Los Angeles with music producer Joe Kennedy and made her official debut into the music business in 2013 during Rolling Stone Magazine's fourth anniversary in the Middle East. Rouba was one of the main featured artists at Abu Dhabi's Beats on the Beach as part of the Formula One Yasalam program alongside renowned artists such as Missy Elliot and CEE LO GREEN where she performed for 50,000 people.

During her career she worked with renowned musicians such as Ziad Rahbani, and Guy Manoukian performing at landmarks such as Music Hall, Jazz Lounge, Blue Note, Bar Louis, SNATCH and Bourbon Street in Amsterdam.

Rouba's passion for music began at the age of 5 influenced by the likes of Marvin Gaye, Cat Stevens, Janis Joplin, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder, Georges Benson, Roberta Flack and so many more from that era.

Rouba is also a communications expert with more than 18 years experience in public relations, marketing, event management, journalism and publishing in the MENA region and has worked with numerous international companies and brands throughout her career.
